FAQ
Q: What is a “BNC”?
A: BNC is an IRC Bouncer that stays connected 24/7 on IRC, and has the ability to store messages while you are offline.
Q: Is this free? Do I have to pay for it?
A: No, you do not have to pay for it. BNC4FREE offers this service for FREE. Despite the fact our service is free we do ask (but not force) users to donate. Donating is completly optional.
Q: What are the requirements for an application?
A: You need to have a valid email address so we can send you the details and you need to ensure that you have not violated our terms of service. You can review the terms of service by clicking here
Q: Can I have a bouncer even if I don’t connect to it at all?
A: No, bouncers that have never been logged into are deleted on a monthly basis. Inactive accounts are also reviewed once a month and will be deleted after 2 months of no usage.
Q: Can I have your bouncer connect to XYZ Server?
A: The answer is usually yes but please check our blacklist before requesting an account
Q: How do I use it/connect to it?
A: Instead of connecting on the IRC network, you’ll have to connect to the server that has the bouncer installed on a certain port.
For example, connecting to uk.eu.bnc4free.com on port 1337 without SSL with username “client” and password “yourpassword”, you’ll do something like this
“/server uk.eu.bnc4free.com 1337 client:yourpassword” (Applies to mIRC but other clients may be similar)
Q: Can I see what has been said in a channel while I was not connected?
A: Yes, you only have to set a buffer for playback for each channel. “/msg *status setbuffer #channel 100″, that commands make the BNC display you the last 100 messages on the channel upon connect.
Q: How can I request a bouncer account?
A: join #bnc4free on irc.surgehost.net, irc.gtanet.com, irc.makaiwell.com or irc.rizon.net, and type “!request” in the channel, then you have to fill out the required fields (e.g !request username ident nick network email). Once completed use !check [requestid]. A member of staff will accept your account when they become available and email you the details. When accepted “!check” will return Accepted, otherwise it will return “Rejected”.
Q: I need help with my BNC!
A: Join #bnc4free on one of the three mentioned networks. Ask and wait until someone responds.
Q: How to change my account settings?
A: Each bouncer has a web panel on port 1337. For example to access the uk one you would use http://uk.eu.bnc4free.com:1337/. You can also do it thought “/query *status” and type help in there to view options.
Q: I forgot my account password or didn’t receive info at all.
A: Join #bnc4free on one of the mentioned networks and inform the staff, we will try to resolve the issue as soon as is possible
